About myself

 

My name is Antonius J. Klein Breteler and I was born in 1946 in The Netherlands. Before my retirement I worked at the University of Technology Delft as a senior lecturer / associated professor.

My scientific education is Mechanical Engineering: Msc in 1971 and PhD in 1987 both at TU Delft.

I have been involved in scientific research programs like “Automation of Production”, “Computer Aided Design of Mechanisms” and “Transportation Equipment”. For a list of publications see the Bibliography below.

Since my retirement from TU Delft I am still active in international bodies:

-          IFToMM (International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science), as a member of its permanent commission for “Standards and Terminology”,

-          VDI (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure – the German society of Engineers), as a member of its permanent work group for “Planar Link mechanisms”.

Now as a private hobby project, I am continuing to develop my computer program Runmec for motion analysis and optimization of planar linkages. This application, originally created to prove the theory described in my PhD-work, is my main toolbox for solving practical mechanism problems. The application can be downloaded freely for non-commercial use on the basis of self-study, supported by a user manual/tutorial and well-chosen examples of application. The current version is of interest mainly for students in mechanical engineering. Future versions will be directed to a more intuitive use of the program and may gain attention of a wider group.
